Be Inspired. This Thing Is Fired.
April 5th, 2011I hope all this great weather is making you really itchy to fire up and make some ‘que.
If your barbecue has gone to the birds, don’t let that keep you from grilling up some burgers for dinner or smoking some good old butts this weekend.
It would be great if a brand new cooker would keep looking like new, but it’s certainly not the case. Paint peels, metal rusts, stainless steel turns nasty looking, and grates get cruddy. A dirty grill or smoker can be depressing. If yours is in a mess, you know what I mean.
Thankfully, a little scrubbing and polishing and painting can make a real difference. Even then, you might need some inspiration.
Here is a collection of pictures from picnics and cooks we pulled off in the last year. I am running behind in publishing them, so I packed some of the best ones into a photo gallery for you to enjoy.
Be inspired. 🙂

love your site. thanks for putting me on your list….or, maybe I signed up for it. No matter. I like receiving your stuff. and for what you did today, I agree, I just do not like how sometimes your bbq gets all yucky and rusty over the winter. right now I have a couple of old rusted propane tanks sitting out back at my daughter’s (they are hers) and I am not sure at what point they turn to being dangerous and no longer usable. That part sorta scares me since she is our daughter. Any advice? Can I just paint over them?

Are you talking about 20 pound tanks? Are they full?
If I had an old tank, I might exchange it and get a newer one. Around us, we can swap an empty tank for a full one for around $20 and I think they even take old tanks.
Or you could ask someone that fills tanks to inspect them for you. I can’t really give you expert advice on that, but I would think some surface rust won’t hurt the tank more than in appearance. And some sanding and paint would help with that. 🙂

Great Pictures, but the important thing is the food. The pictures gave me some great ideas for my Kentucky Derby party. Thanks

Thank you. Yes, even a cheap Weber kettle grill has it’s place. 🙂

Hi Lavern I enjoyed going through you slideshow the BBQ (braai) I could almost taste yummie, being South African and far from home it made me a bit home sick. You have a wonderful place out there and it was nice to see the family and garden part as well. Please keep me in the loop and I look forwards to your next issue.
Kind regards
Garth
